Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr a.k.a Lil Wayne was born September 27, 1982. Wayne was born in New Orleans Louisiana and grew up in the neighborhood "Hollygrove". At the age of only 11 Lil Wayne was already experimenting with drugs. In a interview of Wayne he said "I wouldn't know if it was crack, coke, all I knew is that it was white."
Bryan (Birdman) and Slim Williams were brothers that owned one of the hottest rap labels out at the time. Lil Wayne's first recording for Cash Money Records was True Stories (1993), which he recorded when he was only 8 years of age. Performing with another skilled rapper B.G. under the name the BGs. Away from the studios, he was living dangerously. He sold crack for a time, and accidentally shot himself in the chest, according to an article in Rolling Stone. "It was my mom's gun" he told the magazine in 2008. "It was like a chopper hit me. But the bullet went straight through, and I bounced back in two weeks."
He dropped his first album (Get It How U Live) when he was only 16 years old, and it sold more than 400,000 copies. But Wayne had bigger things to worry about. On October 22, 9:25 a.m, Lil Wayne delivered his first son Dwayne Michael Carter III. He dropped everything and went home to his son and his wife. Wayne was married to Antonia Johnson.
Wayne was on his way to becoming the best. Lil Wayne big hit was the song (Bling Bling). If you have ever heard that word that's right Lil Wayne came up with the song. Wayne battled with drugs through out his carrer, he like carrying around a styrofoam cup filled with luquid hydrocodein (a.k.a syrup). He still till this day is battleing the addiction. \
Lil Wayne home town was destroyed when hurricane Katriana hit New Orleans in 2004. He was devastated and stopped writing music for a little bit to go back and help the people from this neighbor hood.
His biggest album, the album that sent him to the top was (The Cater). The album sold over 1.3 million copies in the first week. He produced hundreds of other underground mixtapes and freestyles. In 2004 Lil Wayne wrote a song that labeled him "The Best Rapper Alive" and Wayne would have to forever live up to what he labeled himself.

ReplyDeleteI have always like Lil Wayne. His voice caught my ear one day and now I listen to him all the time. However I did not know some of the things that I learned in this article like the fact that he was only 11 years old when he got into the hard core drugs. It's sad that he is still battling the addiction but I am sure he can over come it. His home neighborhood being destoryed is sad but it's cool that he went back to help. And you know he has a heart when he drops everything to go home to his wife and kid. He is an all around good rapper: )
